Annesley, Nottinghamshire

Annesley, March 15th 1441

Went with Sir Robert to see Mr Hubert who`s daughter is getting married soon, on seeing such inspiring place. as Annesley Hall is, in a beautifully location, with broad acres of richly timbered woodlands, all over the estate, on taking out my sketch pad I proceeded to make some notes.

Annesley named after a Celtic chieften named "Anna",and Annesley in old english would translate in `lea (meadow) "Annas meadow, Annes lea", this was granted as a reward for fighting at the Battle of Hastings 1066.

The Fitz-Hubert family has lived in the hall over generations from 1068 through to 1442,then Alice possible the last daughter married Sir George Chaworth (from another old Norman family), Then it became the Chaworths family home.

Annesley Hall and the surrounding Woodlands have been sold several times without any significant change in the use of the property (attended only by a caretaker). More recently, a pending sale would renew the manor house & stables and build a resort hotel and championship golf course. This outcome remains in doubt.
