Wednesday, the 19th inst, a shocking accident happened at Arnold near Nottingham. As Thomas HEARSON jun of that village was returning from plough on horseback, he and the horse were struck dead in an instant. It is supposed that this melancholy affair was occasioned by a ball of fire which fell in a perpendicular direction. It first seized the left size of the poor man’s head, went down his breast, tore and burnt his breeches very much, then touched the horse’s shoulder, and singed the hair as it passed to the ground. This unfortunate man has left a most disconsolate widow and six small children to survive the loss of a tender husband and a kind, indulgent father.

FATAL OCCURRENCE – We have to record a most distressing and fatal occurrence, which took place in the afternoon of Monday se’nnight, in the parish of Arnold, Nottinghamshire. A person who had been in the habit of using a gun, went out into the fields, for the purpose of shooting, and the piece not going off, he began to examine it, when some children, attracted by curiosity, assembled around, and while he was probing the touch-hole, the gun went off, and wounded three of them, one of whom, of the name of CHESTER, we regret to say, died immediately. The accident happened in a field at the back of the toll-house, near the White Hart Inn. A Coroner’s Inquest has since been held on the body, and a verdict returned of Accidental Death.
