Wednesday, 27 October 1858, Derby Mercury 3484,
DEATHS – At Red Hill near Arnold Notts, on the 20th inst, Mr William SIMPSON, having been between third and forty years an ernest and useful Wesleyan local preacher.

Tuesday, 10 May 1859, Daily News 4052,
FREEHOLDS – BASFORD AND ARNOLD NOTTS. To Be SOLD pursuant to an order of the High Court of Chancery, made in the Cases of SMEDLEY v. POTTER, and SHILTON v. POTTER, at the Vernon Arms Inn at Basford on Thursday 2 June 1859, the OLD TWO-MILE PUBLIC HOUSE, a Farm-House called “The Tinker House”, and several Messuages, Closes of Land at Basford and Arnold in the occupation of Mr Aaron BRAMLEY, Mr William JACKSON, GODBER and others, Mr Joseph WAINWRIGHT, and Messeurs WHYATT and FARRANDS. Wednesday, 19 October 1859, Derby Mercury 3535,
WHOLESALE COMMITTAL FOR PROCURING ABORTION – (The following is a short version of the newspaper article). On Saturday, Elizabeth GODBER, domestic servant; John DENBY her master; Alfred TWELLS and Mary TWELLS his wife, of Arnold near Nottingham; were charged with the crime of concealment of birth and procuring abortion. Mr DENBY was the father of the child. Elizabeth GODBER went to the TWELL’s house three times for them to get rid of the child. Mr TWELL’s used instruments during the operation. Mr DENBY paid the 28s for them to do so. GODBER threw the baby into her master’s privy. The magistrates after hearing the statement of the prisoner GODBER committed DENBY and the two TWELLS for trial at the next Assizes on the charge of procuring abortion, and GODBER (who had admitted Queen’s evidence) for concealment of the birth.

Wednesday, 12 September 1860, Derby Mercury 6704,
– IMPORTANT SALE OF ELEGANT FURNITURE &C., AT ARNOT HILL NEAR NOTTINGHAM – James CARTER begs to announce that he has received instructions to SELL by PUBLIC AUCTION on MONDAY, TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY the 17th, 18th and 19th days of September 1860, the valuable contents of the Residence of Mr Robert LEVICK at Arnot Hill, in the parish of Arnold near Nottingham. (There followed an extremely long list of the various rooms and the furniture, paintings, carpets etc contained in them that would be auctioned.)

CLERGYMEN MARRIED – June 9 at the Parish Church, Arnold, Notts, the Rev Hugh BRYAN, M.L. Curate of Oakham, Rutland, to Mary Emilie, only child of G.W. LEIGH Esq, M.R.C.S., The Grove, Arnold.

Wednesday, 3 May 1865, Liverpool Mercury 5384,
A man named KNIGHT was killed at Arnold near Nottingham on Saturday night, while fighting with a man named FOSTER. The latter is in custody.

Thursday, 21 March 1867, Leeds Mercury 9028,
ALLEGED ASSAULT BY A CLERGYMAN – At the Shire-hall Nottingham yesterday, the Rev George ATKINSON, curate at Arnold near Nottingham, was charged with assaulting Mr James ANTONY, in the parish vestry. Case dismissed. (short version of story)

Wednesday, 4 November 1868, Derby Mercury 8061,
CHARGE OF EMBEZZLEMENT AGAINST A POOR-RATE COLLECTOR – At Nottingham on Saturday, John BRAMLEY, a poor-rate collector of Arnold near Nottingham, was charged with embezzling 177/- 14s 2d belonging to the guardians of the Basford Union. The Accused did not appear and the case was conducted in his absence. His books were examined and deficiencies discovered. Accused has since decamped. Magistrates ordered a distress warrant against BRAMLEY’s good, and in default of insufficient funds to pay the amount, he would be committed for three months’ with hard labour.
