DEATHS – SIMPSON, Mr H.B. at Babworth Hall Notts, aged 77, March 28th.

WILLS AND BEQUESTS – the will and codicil of Henry Bridgeman SIMPSON of Babworth Hall Notts and 44 Upper Grosvenor Street have been proved, the personal estate being sworn under €100,000. Testator’s widow takes a legacy of €2,000, the residence in Upper Grosvenor Street, with the furniture and the residence of the personalty for life in addition to her jointure of €1,000 per annum, and the rents of part of his freehold property. Upon the death of the widow the residue of the personalty goes to testator’s sisters. To his nephew Granville Orlando BRIDGEMAN, testator devises certain of his freehold estates absolutely; and the residue thereof, he settles on Henry DENISON and his issue in tail male.

FASHIONABLE MARRIAGE – Mr Adolphus DUNCOMBE, youngest son of Lady Harriet DUNCOMBE and the late Hon and Very Rev the Dean of York, with the Miss Beatrice Dorothy Mary BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON, youngest daughter of the Rev Wm BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON rector of Babworth Notts and Lady Frances BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON, was solemnized at St Thomas’s Church, Orchard-street, Portman Square, on Wednesday last. (There then followed a very long description of the names of attendants, gowns, jewellery, wedding feast and honeymoon plans etc.) The marriage ceremony was performed by the Hon and Rev George T. Orlando BRIDGEMAN, MA, rector of Wigan Lancs, and Chaplain in Ordinary to the Queen.

GEORGE MORTON, BABWORTH, NOTTS – Can any correspondent kindly help me to trace the ancestors of this gentleman, who died at Babworth Notts June 1775 aged 75 years. He married Ann BINGLEY of East Retford county Nottingham 10th September 1730. She died 12th April 1787 aged 84 years and was buried at Babworth. The family consisted of four sons – George, Thomas, William (who married Elizabeth MYERS of Farnley, and daughter of Launcelot MYERS of Farnley, near Leeds. Married by licence at Marsham Yorks 4 November 1776) and the fourth and youngest son, the Rev Richard MORTON M.A. for forty-nine years Vicar of East Retford county Nottingham, baptised at Babworth 17 June 1744; matriculated at Oxford (Balliol College) 16 December 1763 (and then aged 18 years), B.A. 1767, M.A. 1770, Died 1821 buried East Retford. Ann, the eldest daughter born Babworth 1731, married Francis CRESWELL who died 1793 aged 63; she died 1807; both buried Babworth. The family tradition is the family came from the South of England, and were (traditionally) of some note. W. BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON. Mr St AUBYN, who is a brother of Lord St LEVAN, was for seventeen years rector of Stoke Fleming, Devonshire.

WILLS AND BEQUESTS – The will dated August 24th 1889 of the Rev William BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON J.P. of Babworth Rectory Notts, who died on April 1, was proved at the Nottingham District Registry on June 24 by Orlando John George Bridgeman BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON, and George Arthur Bridgeman BRIDGEMAN-SIMPSON, the sons, and Samuel JONES, the executors, the value of the personal estate amounting to €36,676.
