Sailors Jacket
Naval uniform 1804-1811

John Barber esq, living in Bilborough used an large sum of his fortune to patent his idea of Double-lap stocking stitch worked upon a warp frame, from the material he produced by this method which was like a stout blanket that had the same properties as a good worsted cloth without the property inherent in the size after being made wet.

So Mr Barber conceived the idea of making it into Sailors Jackets, which he said "would be warmer and more pliable than the ones in general use", he applied to the Lords of the Admiralty, and the jackets was adopted by the Navy; The sailors who were in the Battle of Trafalgar were clothed in this garmet conceived in Bilborough in 1804.
