Here we have a map of Barton village in 1883. This would be what it was like as in the tim of the"Wanderer in 1834" in the book "Walks around Nottinghamshire,"

This village in its delightful settings, on the bank of the river trent, about 1.5 miles to the west of the little hamlet of Clifton "but now largest estate in europe", by the ferry route down stream and about 2 miles by road is Wilford, with Barton it has quite a few dwellings that belong to some of the opulent families of Nottingham that have their trades in the center of the town

Over the years this village has become very influential in Nottingham, not knowing it was there just outside the village of Clifton and Gotham close to Radcliff on Soar Power Station.
