St George`s Church

< The building stone was not collected locally to build this magnificent church, but is very similar as the stone that came from quarries of Bramcote or Trowell Moors, also stone identical "|even the same" type, can also be seen in the buildings of Wollaton and Wilford churches.

The Church which was restored in 1811, with the expence of £350--£400, " Saying one who visited in 1816 sumed up the archived result for the work, that of distruction of the filigree gothic carved rood screen, and what remains is in no way as beatifull antiquity as the complete rood loft, in the Chancel there are Piscina Niches with recesses for the cruets ... something unique in this country.

The manor of Barton has had a very up snd down history, in about 1450.
it belonged to a family from Derbyshire, generations of coinsiderable importance Lord Greys of Codnor, who`s castle was at Heanor, in his will when he died it bluntly states that, he had no heirs but two illigitemate sons both called "Harry" and to one he left a portion, While his daughter married one of the derbyshire Sacheverell, and came to live in Barton where the line carried for two hundred years.

alabaster tomb with effigies of William and Tabitha Sacheverell, dated 1616, whose estate passed to the Cliftons by purchase after the marriage of a daughter of Robert Sacheverell to George Clifton in about 1715.
