Thursday, 20 June 1867, Pall Mall Gazette 736,
MARRIAGE – The Duke of St Albans to Miss Sybil GREY, daughter of General the Hon. Charles and Mrs GREY and niece of Earl GREY, solemnized this morning at the Chapel Royal, St James. (Long list of those who attended including the Prince of Wales). In the afternoon the noble Duke and his bride left for the Duke’s seat, Bestwood Park, near Nottingham.

DEATHS – On the 2nd inst, Elizabeth WILSON of Frithwood Farm, Derbyshire, widow of Edward WILSON of Bestwood Park near Nottingham, aged 70.

FUNERAL OF THE DUCHESS OF ST ALBAN’S – The funeral of this lamented lady took place yesterday in the churchyard at Bestwood Park near Nottingham. The funeral procession left Bestwood-hall, no carriages being in attendance, the body borne to the grave by some of the tenantry. (Very long list of family, royalty and mourners who attended the funeral). The proceedings were ordered by the Duke to be as private as possible and were witnessed by about 500 spectators. The deceased was thoroughly beloved by those residing in the neighbourhood, both rich and poor. (This was the funeral for Sybil Mary GREY born 28 November 1848, died 7 September 1871)

RAILWAY ACCIDENT IN NOTTS – During the dense fog yesterday a shocking accident occurred on the Midland Railway at Hucknall Torkard, Notts. Two girls, named Sarah WILSON and Sarah PENNISTONE, aged respectively 12 and 10 years, both of Bestwood Park, were on their way to school in the morning, and when passing over the level crossing known as the Butler’s Hill crossing, they were knocked down by the engine of the 8.47 passenger train from Hucknall. WILSON was struck on the head and killed instantly, and PENNISTONE was severely hurt, but her injuries are not likely to prove fatal.
