Farming in Bilborough

Down through history the fields in and around Bilborough have been farmed the same way, by rotation livestock, and then teams of Horses or Ox pulling a plough, tilling the soil getting the fields ready for the crops of wheat and barley to be planted.

Gathering the Harvest by horse

As time passed there was a transision to a more moden way of harvesting the wheat and barley by forms of a combine cutter pulled by a tractor, leaving the hay, that had to be manual gathered and bundled into what they call "stoops" so that wind and sun could dry it through.
