Bilborough and Broxtowe from the Air

Bilborough has changed immensely over the years with the building of the two large housing estates. Nottingham City Council purchased these area’s in 1926 Bilborough as part of the Wiloughby eatstes. and Broxtowe in 1931,at the time when Miss Edge sold some of the Edge Family estate to the City Council.

Bracebridge drive one of the many bank of shops in Bilborough, in this image we can see the Library, Pelican Public house and the wasteland which is now a small complex of flats and maisonettes, I can remember this well as my dad used to park his lorry on the slip road .

In this Bilborough image above we can see in the top right part of the Broxtowe housing estate, foreground Glaisdale and Glenbrook schools and the main road through Bilborough which is Wigman road, In the center is the sports stadium of Harvey Haddon home of the N.C.C Athletic Club.

In this image we are flying over the village of Strelley looking towards the Basford area of Nottingham in the bottom left side which is now Broxtowe park a large open area, it was near here in the 1930s that Roman remains were found!, when building this moden estate,

Broxtowe again this image looking towards Bulwell, with in the fore ground the now Strelley road with the Co-op building showing as a black square and next is the old peoples complex looks like its just being built.
