On Wednesday, January 25th, at Bilborough near Nottingham, the wife of the Rev John F HURT, of a son.

MARRIAGE – On the 11th inst at Montrose, Scotland, by the Rev T. SOUTHEY, Episcopal Priest, Mr R. BILLIALD, Bilborough Notts, to Annie, daughter of Mr Thomas ATHERSTONE, Cuper-Fife.

COMMITTAL FOR WILFUL MURDER – On Wednesday, a young man, named Francis FRETWELL, was brought before the sitting magistrates at the Shire-hall Nottingham, charged with the wilful murder of Elizabeth BRADLEY, at the village of Bilborough, Nottingham. From the evidence educed it appeared that the prisoner and the deceased were servants to neighbouring farmers and resided in the same parish. An intimacy commenced between them, which resulted in the woman becoming enceinte, and to avoid exposure he gave her acme corrosive sublimate for the purpose of procuring abortion. Immediately after swallowing the potion she became very ill, being violently seized with fits of vomiting and convulsions, and a few days afterwards she expired. A post mortem revealed that death had ensured from irritant poison. Prisoner committed to take his trial at the next Nottingham assizes on the capital charge.

AN AFFRAY WITH POACHERS – A poaching affray took place on Friday at Bilborough near Nottingham, between four poachers and five keepers and watchers in the employ of J.T. EDGE Esq of Strakey Hall. The poachers used their weapons, and a violent struggle took place. One of the keepers received a heavy blow on the head, cutting his eye severely. The dog was instantly let loose and fastened upon William WOODWARD, an old offender, bit him severely, and retained his hold. After a violent encounter three of the men succeeded in getting away, without their comrade, to whom the dog clung. WOODWARD was much injured, and it was found necessary to procure medical assistance.

VACANCIES – The rectory of Bilborough near Nottingham, worth €280 a year, and the rectory of Strelly, worth €90 a year, by the death of the Rev. J.F. HURT, M.A., patron Mr T.W. EDGE.

MARRIAGE – BURNET-ELLIS – October 28 at Bilborough by the Hon and Rev C.J. WILLOUGHBY M.A. Rector of Woolaton, Aaron Motley BURNET of Gainsborough, second son of Mr A BURNET of Little Steeping, Lincolnshire, to Maria, only daughter of Mr J ELLIS, Chilwell Downs, Bilborough, Notts.

DEATHS – HURT, Ralph P.F.J., son of the late Rev John Francis, Rector of Bilborough Notts, at Candahar, Afghanistan, aged 25, August 2.

MARRIAGE – HURT-GRANT – On November 15, 1892, at St John’s Cathedral, Denver, Colorado, by the Rev Dean HURT, Claude J. HURT, youngest son of the late Rev. John HURT, rector of Bilborough Notts, to Florence GRANT.
