Bilborough, January 1st 1923
Visiting the Old Farm (now the Shelia Russel center) I came across two ladies Mrs Thelma Thiessen (nee Burton) and Mrs Sylvia Wakefield, looking at the History Board of The farm and Center, on finding out what there interest was because there father was born here and the father of Thelma was the last farmer to farm from here in 1949, on talking to Thelma she proceded to tell me.
Thelma Thiessen (Burton)Thelma Burton I am the Daughter of John Burton of Bilborough younger brother of Harry Burton who farmed at this farm in 1911, John married my mother Fransis Joice from Scarborough in 1904, they emigrated to Canada and I was born on 1st January 1921 in Saskatchewan Canada at the age of six with my perents we came back to England to visit the rest of the family, Sylvia is my second Cousin she was showing me around where my father was born and the Old Church of St Martins (now very Old). . 
Here is the Burton Family Left-right Joice, Henry, Harry, with me on his knee wife Ann cousin Madge.I remember the farm very well as my cousins Bill and Harry would lift me up and put me on the horses back, I can remember pig sty and other buildings also where the trees were and where we used to ice skate on the pond, My sister carved her initals in the window frame near the farm gate and they are still visable today. I seemed to be spoilt when I was a child when my hair was a lovely red colour and of cause I loved the attention. I`ve looked through my family album many time and can still relive my jouneys home to dads home at Bilborough. 
Harry Thelma and billI can also remember myself and Nora Booth nee(Cox) and some others going into one of grandads fields and haveing lovely picnics,"tea and Pastries". 
Grandpa William BurtonHarry Burton moved with his family to Radcliffe on Trent after he left Bilborough the farm was brought by Nottingham C,C and there was a caretaker left in charge of the property Mr Towle. Please take the time to Sign my Guestbook
