The Community Center
In the mid 1930s the lady from Wollaton Miss Sheila Russell started the center at the Strelley village school,
It was proved very successful but was mainly attended by women, it was not until 1938 that the Bilborough Community
center at Manor Farm was opened with its own community association Offering a more varied and structured activities,.

Farm House
As demand increased the local authority helped purchase Burton farm in 1946. The farm was in a very run down state which would need a lot of hard work and updating, By 1948 the farm was ready to open, Michael Locke a astute and well
educated man was to become the warden, at the same time Herbert Towle a practical and down-to-earth man became the
caretaker and Evelyn his wife who was a committed and enthusiastic, generous committee member.

Through the gates
The Farm take in c2002 when I visited Bilborough Shelia Russell Center as they was getting ready for a summer fair, The Chairman (chairlady) at the time was a lady that I knew as Miss Jane Roper but now married and another enthusiastics committee member.

The Farm looking through the gate at the Old barn this had the roof raised in c1968 and is now a large concert room that can be hired for functions and dances, also by clubs seeking somewhere to do other activeities

Over the wall looking over towards the old stables and pigery, standing next to the house gate, in this farmyard still stands a water pump erected by J,W Edge rector of Bilborough in 1854.
